Celebrating the vibrant and unique Kelabits Culture

The Kelabits Live in Kuala Lumpur 2022

The Kelabits, residing in the secluded Bario Highlands of Sarawak, bring forth a rich culture showcased through ornate dances depicting harmonious cohabitation with natural fauna and warrior shows narrating tales of fierce battles with displays of bravado and prowess. Amidst the spectacle, the Sape instruments provide a soothing and soul-cleansing experience, resonating through the single bole of white wood.

The event, geared towards promoting Bario Highlands Sarawak as a tourist destination, was spearheaded by Datin Pearl Masna, the Director of Yayasan Kesenian Orang Asli. As one of the first Kelabits to venture beyond Bario, she actively participates in promoting Sarawak culture and dance under the Sarawak State Government. Her involvement in the Foundation for the Indigenous Arts stems from a commitment to promoting indigenous people and raising awareness about the diverse cultures and unique traditions of her community.

The event which was supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts & Culture, aimed to bring one of Malaysia’s smallest and most secluded indigenous tribes to the city of Kuala Lumpur to display and promote their colorful culture and heritage.
