YKOA Launches The Legends of Indigenous People Malaysia

A New Publication Celebrating Malaysia’s Indigenous Heritage

Yayasan Kesenian Orang Asli & Asal (YKOA), in collaboration with HBL Ventures Sdn. Bhd., proudly introduced The Legends of Indigenous People Malaysia, a pictographic publication that celebrates the rich cultures, traditions, and stories of Malaysia’s Indigenous communities across Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, and Sarawak.

Building on the legacy of the earlier publication, Orang Asli & Their Wood Arts, the book also honours the memory of Datuk Antony Ratos, whose lifelong dedication to preserving Indigenous heritage continues to inspire YKOA’s work.

Designed as a visual journey, the publication showcases the traditions, customs, and cultural diversity of Indigenous communities through compelling photography and storytelling. It aims to foster greater appreciation and understanding of Malaysia’s Indigenous heritage while preserving these stories for future generations.

The project brought together the expertise of renowned photojournalists Henry H. Berber and Florent Mamelle, whose extensive experience documenting cultures around the world has helped create a publication that reflects the beauty and significance of Malaysia’s Indigenous peoples.

Through initiatives like this, YKOA continues its commitment to preserving Indigenous culture, promoting awareness, and ensuring that these stories remain accessible for generations to come.
